Heart-Shaped Box: A Novel by Joe Hill
Jude Coyne is an aging death-metal rocker who also happens to collect macabre artifacts. When his assistant stumbles across an ad to buy a ghost (and the suit that belonged to him), Jude is intrigued. But his fascination turns to horror when the heart-shaped box containing the suit arrives... along with the dead man and his razor blade.
This book reminded me a lot of a typical Stephen King book. Although it's gruesome, the protagonist learns to trust himself and care about others more. There's a reason that Jude is "selected" as a buyer, and he needs to solve the mystery to save himself and hopefully his girlfriend. Also like a King book, there's haunted vehicles and trusting dogs. This doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading it... I've read a few Stephen King books too. The only complaint I have is that I don't swear, but it seems like the rest of the world has complete potty mouths. Seems like someone could come up with more imaginative adjectives. Ugh
