Around the World in Eighty Days

Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne

Phileas Fogg bets his friends that he and his valet, Passepartout, can circumnavigate the world in only 80 days.  Of course, obstacles continually appear, including being tracked by a detective, and rescuing a woman from a funeral pyre in India.

I liked this book, though once again, the late 19th century writing style made it difficult to read.  Thank heavens it was a short book, and thank heavens for Passepartout.  By the way, the movie adaptations seem to take the title & run with it... they added a million things not from the original story, including the famous balloon ride.
