The Seventh Sinner by Elizabeth Peters
Jean Suttman is part of a group of student scholars in Rome, enjoying her good luck and her new found friends. But then she stumbles across a dying man whom everyone hated, and seemingly random "accidents" threaten to make Jean a victim as well. Thankfully librarian Jacqueline Kirby is there to help find the killer.
It's about time that a witty, intelligent librarian is the heroine of a story. Librarians are not known for their sparkling banter and interesting personalities, but Jacqueline is the exception. If only more librarians could combine their knowledge with even a hint of charisma.
